Two Storey Extension and Building Makeover
Brief
BRD were asked to prepare a scheme to extend our clients existing home, giving them a large kitchen breakfast room with additional bedrooms above. As well as this, they wanted the external appearance of the house enhanced to be more in tune with its rural setting.
Our solution
We designed two extensions on the front and rear, to form a cross wing at one end of the building. At first floor level to each of these, a jetted gable was formed with a bay window below. Above the ground storey, the external walls were clad with black stained timber boarding in the Essex vernacular style.
Separately, a new inglenook fireplace and entrance porch were designed and added and the timber cladding continued onto the existing walls. The existing plain windows were removed and replaced with cottage style timber casements.
